Camp Tennis Coach Wins Mid-Atlantic Championship

Camp Friendship Tennis Director Alina Ackenbom won the USTA Mid-Atlantic Championships for Women over 30, held in Raintree Swim and Racquet Club in Richmond, VA on October 23-24, 2010.

With a 6:3 6:0 win over Courtney Greiner of Richmond, VA Alina became 2010 Champion winning the tournament for two consecutive years. Earlier this year Alina was a runner-up at the USTA National Championship for women over 35, held in Alexandria, VA.

Alina, who grew up playing tennis in her native Russia, has been the Tennis Director for Camp Friendship since 1997. She truly enjoys teaching youth and adults the fundamentals of tennis, combined with teaching positive sportsmanship and a healthy, active lifestyle. This past summer hundreds of children participated in Tennis Clinics offered by Camp Friendship. In the spring and fall, Alina offers lessons and clinics to local youth and adults.
Alina has been a USPTA- certified professional since 2000. She has almost 20 years of teaching experience.

In April, 2010 ADDvantage magazine for USA Tennis Teaching Professionals published Alina’s article “Celebrating Diversity” featuring Alina’s experience of working with youth at Camp Friendship.
